Area:
Nestling on low hills on the north shore of Mahon Harbour, Sant Antoni overlooks the waterfront close to Cala Llonga. Looking across to the historic Isla del Rey (floodlit during the summer months and at Christmas), there are constantly changing views during the day thanks to the yachts, fishing boats and ships that sail these world-famous waters! At night-time the breath-taking sunsets and distant twinkling lights of Es Castell are magical. Little wonder that San Antoni is one of the most sought-after areas in Menorca.
In contrast to the peace and quiet of San Antoni, a five minute water taxi or car ride will take you to Mahon’s lively waterfront restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques. From here you can walk up the ancient steps to the atmospheric old town with an even bigger selection of shops, eateries and places of interest including the colourful food and fish markets.
There are various sandy beaches near to San Antoni: the closest is the lovely cove of Cala Mesquida approximately 5 kilometres away, whilst the quaint fishing village of Es Grau with its wide horseshoe shaped sandy beach is approximately 10kms away. The 19th century fortress of La Mola on the nearby headland at the mouth of the harbour is also well worth a visit.
Chartering a boat is the perfect way to explore Menorca’s numerous sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Boats can be chartered for any duration, but if you don’t have the requisite skills you can still enjoy the thrill of being at sea by being part of an organised boat trip for anything between a couple of hours up to a day. If you enjoy snorkelling, diving or fishing, you will find plenty to do along Menorca’s diverse coastline with its innumerable coves, inlets and beaches.
If you prefer to stay on dry land, the 20 waymarked tracks along the island’s coastline are great for pony trekking, hiking or cycling. A 10 minute drive from San Antoni will take you to Son Parc with its 18 hole golf course (the only one on the island).
